How does your practice process laboratory specimens and what data do you gain from them?

Laboratory Testing

Laboratory medicine is divided into two general categories including clinical pathology and anatomical pathology. These tests are performed on clinical specimens in order to determine information about the health of the patient as it pertains to the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. Most medical laboratories offer a range of individual tests as well as panels.

Our Services

Bird Dog Pharma has partnered with Your Health Lab, a full-service, certified laboratory, to offer you and your patients a wide variety of individual medical lab tests as well as full health screenings that are quick and cost-effective. The clinical and anatomical testing that we provide includes:

General Chemistry

We provide routine results to your practice the following morning to ensure timely follow-up with your patients and improved patient compliance. Our reporting system allows for portal and EMR integration which reduces duplication of work and possibilities for error.

Toxicology

Toxicology screening is being used routinely for managing patients that are prescribed opioids, as a tool to screen for abuse and monitor abuse among noncancer pain patients. This testing protects your patients and your practice.

Wellness Panels

These panels are available to evaluate overall health and are designed to improve care.  These panels include metabolic, thyroid, lipid, and reproductive screening. There are also two panels specific to gender.

Personalized Women’s Panel–  This panel includes a full chemistry profile, lipid profile, thyroid profile, and a CBC. Additional labs can be added to evaluate hormone function or status such, as the Menopause Profile that includes estradiol, FSH and LH.

Personalized Men’s Panel– This panel includes a full chemistry profile, lipid profile, thyroid profile, and a CBC. A PSA test can be added to detect increased levels of Prostatic Specific Antigen.

For either of these panels, it is recommended that the patient fast for at least 10-hours prior to their appointment to achieve the most accurate results.

Allergy Testing

Most primary care practices do not have the supplies, equipment, and personnel available to offer in-house allergy testing to their patients. This necessitates referrals to specialists and coordination of care. Bird Dog Pharma offers a viable solution. We are equipped to provide your practice with the following:

  • A full-time allergy technician
  • All necessary supplies and equipment
  • Lab scheduling, patient follow-up, billing, and collections
  • Ongoing practice support and customer service

This is an opportunity for you and your patients. Our service helps you to provide continuity of care because there is no need for a referral, we come to you. Even better is that you have no out of pocket expenses by offering this service to your patients, you increase revenue streams and can retain and attract new patients by offering additional services.

Bird Dog Pharma goes beyond just allergy testing and provides immunotherapy treatment as well. We provide best-in-class patient compliance and safety protocols, and treatment programs resulting in 88% efficacy. This service allows you to provide patient-specific care and closely monitor your patient’s response to treatment through easy access to services.

Heart Panel

According to the CDC, cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality, accounting for 1 in 4 deaths each year in the United States. A routine lipid panel is a good screening tool if a patient does not have a family history of heart disease and/or associated risk factors. Recent studies have proven this to be partially correct because statistics have shown that roughly half of all heart attacks occur in patients that have normal cholesterol levels. Therefore, prevention of CVD requires timely identification of a person at increased risk. This is necessary in order to target effective dietary, lifestyle, or drug interventions.

The early identification of risk of CVD can be accomplished through our Heart Panel. This panel includes cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, LDL, VLDL, homocysteine (HC) and C-reactive protein (CRP). We go beyond the routine lipid panel and include HC and CRP.

Recent studies have looked at the predictive capabilities of hyperhomocysteine levels as they relate to:

C-reactive protein (CRP) plays a significant role in detecting an inflammatory process for various diseases and ongoing trials are currently evaluating whether reducing inflammation can decrease vascular event rates. When evaluating a patient for cardiovascular disease, it is advised to compare blood pressure, lipid levels and the presence of a proinflammatory response. Although diet, exercise, and smoking cessation are the first steps for these patients, medications such as statins or antihypertensive agents may also be necessary. The addition of these test will allow you to make informed decisions about current or ongoing care of your patients.

For the most accurate results, a 10-hour fasting period is recommended.

Benefits for You and Your Patients

When asked, many patients will say that they are fine. However many may, in fact, have multiple abnormalities in biochemical markers reflecting organ and system dysfunction, nutritional status or other health risks. Because of this, we feel that it is necessary for your patients to receive comprehensive laboratory testing and Bird Dog Pharma is dedicated to delivering this service.

The last thing that a provider or their patient should worry about is the affordability and accuracy of laboratory testing. We are an in-network provider for most insurance plans and we file all claims (including Medicare/Medicaid) for your patients at no charge.

In addition to the laboratory testing and billing to insurance companies, we assure that patients who pay out-of-pocket are receiving services at the lowest cost possible. We also offer phlebotomy staff that can assist you with specimen collection right in your office. Call us today to discuss the opportunity available to you and your patients.
